Two men who’ve been at the heart of the political world – former Downing Street Director of Communications and Strategy Alastair Campbell and cabinet minister Rory Stewart – join forces from across the political divide.

The Rest Is Politics lifts the lid on the secrets of Westminster, offering an insider’s view on politics at home and abroad, while bringing back the lost art of disagreeing agreeably.

Goalhanger podcasts

This a podcast I listen to often. Politics in recent years has become ruthless, cruel and characterised by a nastiness that I find horrible. So to listen to two people from opposite sides of the political spectrum ‘disagree agreeably’ is so refreshing. UK politics features heavily, but their discussion and analysis gathers in politics all around the world and they are very knowledgeable. This is a podcast worth listening to no matter where you live in the world. Rory Stewart’s ‘explainers’ are legendary.

The two men seem to genuinely like each other and respect each other. The friendly banter can be very amusing. Campbell and Stewart may come from opposite sides of the political spectrum, but they don’t seem to be too different when it comes to humanity, morality and ethics. This reminds us that different political positions are not necessarily about a ‘good team’ vs a ‘bad team’, but should simply be about different political approaches to the same problem. I long for a return to civilised thoughtful debate.
